The Child and Student Health Services is the joint organization of the Department of Education for child and student health support to schools, and to some extent to preschools in Östersund Municipality. Within the unit, school nurses, school doctors, counselors, psychologists, speech therapists, educators, and special teachers/special educators with expertise work together. A total of about 60 employees work within the unit. The Child and Student Health Services also includes Special Education at hospitals and a Skolfam team.

Your new job

As a school counselor, you are organized under the Child and Student Health Services unit where you have your supervisor. You are placed at one or more schools with the principal as your assignment provider, where you are part of the school's student health team. At some schools, several school counselors work together, while at others you may be the only school counselor.

You are part of a network with other school counselors at the Child and Student Health Services. You meet regularly for supervision, collaboration, continuing education, and collegial learning.

As a school counselor, you work from a holistic perspective on the student in its context; school, home, and leisure. The mission of student health is to support schools in promoting and preventing work and to support students' development towards the school's goals. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you contribute with your specific expertise and knowledge.

Start as soon as possible. Temporary position for 12 months with a possibility of extension.

Common tasks

  • Provide psychosocial expertise as support in educational work and in the overall planning of student health work
  • Conduct conversations such as support, motivation, and crisis talks
  • Participate in the school's structure and organization regarding values and equal treatment
  • Supervision and consultation to school staff
  • At the principal's request, investigate and assess the social and psychosocial situation of individual students
  • Contribute knowledge about risk and protective factors for students' health, social situation, learning, and development
  • Utilize knowledge about students' general psychosocial health and social situation in the student health's other work
  • Contribute knowledge about the community's support systems

Your qualifications

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work
  • Good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form
  • Driver's license
  • Computer skills

Meritorious

  • Experience working as a school counselor
  • Experience working in primary school
  • Experience using ProRenata
  • Knowledge of current legislation

We are looking for someone who collaborates well and has an easy time building relationships. You are professional and respectful in your interactions with students, guardians, and colleagues. You are secure in your professional role, independent in your work, and can make your own decisions in your daily tasks. You also have a good ability to prioritize within the assignment and to delineate tasks in relation to other professions and activities.
